Forbesganj at a Glance
Forbesganj is a town in Araria District, one of the most backward districts of India in the state of Bihar, also one of the most backward states of India in all terms, especially in the fields of education. Forbesganj is situated at the border of Nepal from the south and India with its district headquarters in Araria. In 2006 the Indian government named Araria one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640). It is one of the 36 districts in Bihar currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).
As of 2012, Forbesganj had a population of 373,933. The female to male ratio here is 89.98%. Forbesganj has an average literacy rate of 47%, the same as its state, Bihar. Male literacy is 49.47% while female literacy is 26.89% only. The non-working population is 51.47% of the total population. There are a total of 79,741 children under the age of 6 in Forbesganj. The Muslim population in the state of Bihar is about 16.5%. The population of Araria district has a large concentration of Muslims, but their educational condition is very poor and painful. While going deep into this situation it is known that nearly half of the population is uneducated, especially women. This is not a good situation for them at all, particularly in this era of information & technology.
This area always has been ignored since long by the state and central governments. As the district headquarters, itself lack all modern facilities and fruitful education systems and schemes; Forbesganj stands at far bottom in the list of the governments, centre and state.
This is the poor state of education which is a basic right of every child born on this land. If we talk about religious education and awareness, you will find it is highly substandard and very poor. Most of the areas have the institutions of religious education, but only few are able to match their standards with modern educational institutions. Hence, the boys compel to travel across the country for getting education but problems arise for girls who can't travel for education. Moreover, you will find a lot of families where the girls are not provided even basic education as well religious education to live a healthy and independent life
